“My parents were both immigrants.  Growing up as a proud first-generation American, I heard a lot about the American Dream and aspired to become a CFO. From the beginning I was a numbers guy, so it should come as no surprise that I found my calling in Finance.

“Actually, though, a large part of my job at Serlin Haley involves helping clients comply with federal, state, and local reporting requirements.  Nowadays, before you lobby at any level you must be clear about what the law demands in the way of registration and reporting.  Each state has its own regulations, its own deadlines, and its own penalties, which can be severe.

“In just the past few years, I’ve registered clients in 13 different states, as well as federally.  No matter how convoluted the reports, or how often they need to be filed, our experience helps clients stay on the right side of the law and avoid the notoriety that can come from a missed or botched filing.  Before working in a new state, clients know we’ve paved the way by registering them where necessary and coaching them on that state’s rules and procedures.  From then on we handle all reporting, relieving our clients from worrying about all that could otherwise go wrong.

“Similarly, clients who make campaign contributions know they can trust us to manage the wholly separate set of requirements for state and federal political action committees (PACs).

“That’s the key word: trust.  As a rule, people who go into government relations want to focus on politics, and leave reporting and compliance to those who know this best.  I’m proud to help fill that role.”

Brian joined Serlin Haley in 2012, after working long enough with wealth management and tax firms to decide that corporate accounting would be a better fit.

A graduate of Bentley University, Brian took top honors in a prestigious business plan contest there on his way to a Bachelor of Science degree in Accountancy with minors in human resource management and American history.  He is currently completing work toward a Certificate in PAC Management from the Public Affairs Council.
