JOB POSTING: REGULATORY & GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS ASSOCIATE
Seeking experienced state regulatory analyst with excellent written and verbal communication skills for Boston-based lobbying firm with national footprint. 70% of position will be in service of a large, national trade association client; 30% of position will be working with various firm clients and on firm projects.
Monitor and manage ongoing regulatory activity for EPR Laws in CA, CO, ME and OR
- Maintain and manage a database of regulations and all relevant regulatory activity associated with each state’s implementation of their EPR laws;
- Maintain an “action item” system to ensure clients’ representation and involvement in each state’s implementation process;
- Manage tracking and relevance of multiple, and often simultaneous, regulatory activities within all four states; and
- Determine relevance of information for tracking and dissemination of information to client.
Data and Documents for tracking include:
- regulatory notices for working groups, hearings, comment periods, deadlines, implementation dates, and opportunities for stakeholder involvement; and
- documents including draft regulations, summaries, studies, stakeholder comments
Regulatory Comment Analysis and Advocacy
- Analyze regulations to determine relevant elements for external, official comments as well as internal summaries;
- Draft official regulatory comments for submission to state agencies and official regulatory workgroups; and
- Draft testimony, slides, and other materials for advocacy, as necessary.
Attendance and participation at internal and external meetings (majority remote; ability to travel in person)
- Internal client meetings (1-2 a week);
- Attend and participate in proceedings before regulatory agencies, stakeholder working groups, task forces and other similar policy development activities; and
- Advocate, testify, or present at internal and external meetings, including regulatory agencies, stakeholder working groups, and hearings.
Lobbying firm client support
- Working with lobbyists and research colleagues to support existing firm clients with state regulatory and legislative needs in similar fields; and
- Drafting documents, attending meetings, providing research or other client work as needed
Experience/Academic Requirements:
- Experience with state or federal regulations and regulatory process, understanding of state legislative process; knowledge of consumer products, and environmental law is a plus;
- Experience working for or with trade associations is preferred; and
- Undergraduate degree in political science, public policy, economics, business, communications or an equivalent combination of work experience and training.

- Outstanding written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including advocacy skills;
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills with demonstrated experience in managing and executing high quality, client-ready work product;
- A self-starter and self-managing candidate is essential;
- Outstanding time management and judgement, with demonstrated proficiency in managing long and short-term project priorities with a strict adherence to deadlines;
- Ability to work both independently and on a team;
- Professional demeanor and comfortable in client-facing situations as well as providing verbal testimony before government bodies; and
- Strong work ethic, with inherent ability to “go above and beyond.”
Location: MD/DC/VA, Northeast/New England or CA/Northwest. This position may be remotely-based but will require some travel, often on short notice.
Salary: $95,000 – $110,000 with competitive benefits package and performance-based yearly bonuses.
